Arcane

Arcane is one of Netflix's greatest series of all-time

Arcane, a game created by Riot Games, takes place in the well-known League of Legends (LoL) universe. Arcane, a prequel to the beloved MOBA, follows Vi, Jinx, Jayce, and other characters as they set out on their individual quests to become the good guys and bad guys in Riot's online game.

There will also soon be more amazing story beats and animation for fans to check out thanks to the upcoming Arcane season 2.

BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman is one of those classic adult animated shows. (Image credit: Netflix)

Bojack Horseman is indeed funny. The best thing Will Arnett has produced since Arrested Development, undoubtedly. And yeah, if you enjoy anthropomorphic comedy about a once-famous TV personality who is struggling, this should be the next thing you watch. But what distinguishes this from conventional animated comedies is its accurate and empathetic portrayal of sadness and other mental diseases.

If you're concerned that it could be too dark for you, don't be; there's plenty of slapstick humour, wordplay, and gorgeous animation to keep everything in balance.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Edgerunners brilliantly delivers on the adult animated series front. (Image credit: Netflix)

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime spin-off series based on CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 videogame, has brutal violence, fast-paced action, and mature themes in plenty. firm Trigger, a Tokyo-based firm, is the creator of the ten-episode series. Some of its other fan-favorite productions include Little Witch Academia, Star Wars: Visions, and Kill la Kill.

A drama with a gorgeous appearance, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is filled with tense relationships and fast-paced, horrifying scene pieces. Its provocative content also explores what it means to be human in a sci-fi dystopia that is rife with countless sociopolitical problems.

Love, Death & Robots is a great R-rated animated anthology show. (Image credit: Netflix)

Like most (if not all) anthologies, the quality of Adult CG animated anthology Love, Death and Robots varies between episodes. But taken as a larger work, this show has a lot to give. The ideas vary wildly between comedy, horror, action, and drama, with a dark touch at its heart – what happens if a home-cleaning unit starts trying to kill its owner? What happens if a yoghurt tries to secure world domination? Sometimes, an episode is as simple as a woman being on the run from a killer after witnessing a horrible murder.

The episodes are super short, so you'll fire through it in a weekend if you can stomach the good and bad (though mostly bad) things that happen to its eclectic cast of characters. And, if you're keen to learn our thoughts on each entry, this handy ranked list of every Love, Death and Robots story should be top of your agenda.

BEST COMEDY

Arrested Development

Arrested Development isn't leaving Netflix after all. (Image credit: Netflix)

Everyday is sunny in Except for The Simpsons, Philadelphia is unbeatable in the longevity stakes of television, but Arrested Development is a strong contender for the title of "funniest but cringiest sitcom show on Netflix."

The comedy Arrested Development, starring Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Will Arnett, and Portia de Rossi, follows the Bluths, a well-off but dysfunctional family, as they hilariously navigate the challenges of, well, life. You'll be hiding behind the couch cushions crying with laughter as you watch the wince-inducing antics the Bluths engage in.

Arrested Development was scheduled to leave Netflix in March, but an extension of its licencing arrangement prevented that from happening.

Beef

Beef is a mesmeric and diabolical comedy on Netflix. (Image credit: Netflix)

The adage "revenge is a dish best served cold" is true. In the case of beef, a meal, it is best served uncooked.

Steven Yeun (Invincible) and Ali Wong (Paper Girls) play Danny and Amy, two strangers who
argue during a road rage incident, in this utterly superb comedy-drama. Instead of working out their differences amicably, the two dramatically raise the stakes in their argument, which unintentionally involves their friends and family and threatens to become out of hand.

With its edgy and adult humour, hysterically funny set pieces, and unexpectedly moving story, Beef has been acclaimed by critics as one of the best Netflix programmes in years. Would you mind getting some popcorn and watching the couple's lives fall apart with us?

Community

Community is another stellar comedy that's available on Netflix. (Image credit: Netflix)

This popular NBC comedy about a community college study club begins as a more traditional programme about its shabby educational setting, but it elevates itself to the next level when it begins dabbling with pop culture parodies and high-concept episodes.

If you're a novice viewer, stick with it until the season 1 action epic "Modern Warfare," which solidifies Community's identity for subsequent seasons. Some seasons are excellent (2, 3 and 5), while others are merely good (1 and 6), and one is best avoided at all costs (4).

Sex Education

Sex Education is a fantastic British comedy show. (Image credit: Netflix)

Sex Education feels like a beautiful culmination of Netflix’s push for progressive and diverse programming. Set in the picturesque British countryside, it follows the misadventures of the students, faculty, and parents of Moordale Secondary School as they navigate the turbulent waters of sexuality.

The show has resonated deeply with fans thanks to its balance of heart-warming character work and informative approach to topical issues such as varied sexual identities, gendered power structures, and family dynamics. Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield lead a stellar cast of fresh faces in this unmissable deep dive into the various ways we express ourselves as sexual beings. Sex Education season 4 is currently in development, so we'll be seeing more of one of the best Netflix shows again soon.

BEST CRIME

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is an epic award-winning crime drama. (Image credit: AMC/Sony)

Every TV enthusiast should view Breaking Bad at least once in their life because it is perhaps one of the best TV shows to ever be produced.

Breaking Bad is an immediate classic because of the other important characters (and how their arcs are affected by Walter's progressively insane state) rather than Walter White's transformation from dull chemistry teacher to crystal meth criminal ruler. You'll develop feelings for Skyler White, Jesse Pinkman, and Gus Fring, and you'll be perplexed as to what happened to Huell and fall in love with Jesse Pinkman. A captivating piece of television that is deserving of the accolades it keeps receiving.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope is a choose-your-own-adventure-style crime drama. (Image credit: Netflix)

Netflix adores experimental programming, and Kaleidoscope is the most recent addition to the streamer's ever-expanding library.

In Kaleidscope, Giancarlo Espositio (The Mandalorian, Breaking Bad) plays Leo, a mastermind of crime who guides a group of evil but endearing individuals in a heist that has been planned for 25 years. The turn? Kaleidoscope offers a distinctive, non-linear experience since the order in which episodes are watched is randomly given to viewers. Will you finish its intriguing riddle before the very end?

When you're through, be sure to read our article on how the Kaleidoscope finale is explained for details on what happens to each character, whether a second season is likely, and other topics.

Mindhunter

Mindhunter season 3 isn't going to happen. (Image credit: Netflix)

Since he produced the inaugural episode of House of Cards, David Fincher is no stranger to Netflix, but with Mindhunter, he really goes full Fincher. It is based on the same-titled novel by John Douglas and follows the life of an FBI profiler tasked with finding serial killers. It takes place in the 1970s and early 1980s, and its three main characters interview infamous serial killers in frequently tense exchanges.

Also very hands-on, Fincher directed three episodes of season two and four of season one. Sadly, season 3 is probably not occurring, thus no additional episodes should ever be anticipated.
